Additional Information

Fonicpac's Humidity Indicator Card (HIC) is a type of moisture indicator made with blotting paper, desiccant and a colour indicator. This allows the HIC to adsorb moisture from its surroundings, changing the colour of the Indicator accordingly. These HIC are cobalt-dichloride free, adhering to REACH Regulation (EC No 1907/2006).

As many permeable desiccant packets are not see-through, HIC serves as an inexpensive method to visualise the relative humidity levels inside a packet. Typically, these are used together and placed inside an airtight environment for storage or shipments.

Fonicpac's HIC comes in various types, with the most commonly available type being the 3-Dot HIC. Other variants such as 6-dot are also available; you may reach out to Dan (0168181089) or email fonicpac@gmail.com for more information. However, do note that whilst these other variants are available, we do not typically carry these in stock, and may require some lead time for the goods to be delivered. We thank you for your understanding.

Fonicpac's HIC is designed to be regenerated for multiple uses. Heating the HIC in an oven at 110 Celsius for approximately 4 hours will allow the HIC to regenerate its colours for future use. If the HIC is wet or exposed to high levels of humidity, it is recommended to discard it.

To minimise the environmental impact, we recommend the following procedure for disposal of the used HIC. Dispose of according to national and local regulations. The material as supplied is not classified as hazardous, dangerous or toxic. Approved landfill sites can be used. Note that used material which is contaminated with process materials may have different hazards/properties from the material as supplied. Dispose of used material in accordance with the nature of the contamination.

Installation, Usage & Storage

Usage

HIC starts working once it is taken out of its master aluminium bag. It is strongly advised that you do not take it out of the bag unless you need to use it. It is often used alongside other desiccants. It is best used in small, closed boxes or containers, including but not limited to:

  1. Electronics & Semiconductors
  2. Pharmaceutical
  3. Perishables

As most desiccants do not have the ability to showcase their saturation levels, HIC serves as a visible measurement, signalling to users that the box's internal relative humidity has reached a certain threshold. This gives users a visual alert to take the next step in protecting goods from moisture damage.

Fonicpac's HIC can be reused under proper heating. When heat is applied, HIC can return to its original colours as moisture evaporates from the blotting paper. However, it is advised to discard HICs that have been subjected to extreme moisture, which can jeopardise their accuracy.

Installation

Place the card inside your airtight container or moisture barrier bag alongside a desiccant pack and your sensitive item, then read the highest colour-changed dot after it stabilises.

Storage

Place unused HICs back into their original shielding bag, back into the aluminium bags and seal them back in their metal cans. Keep in a cool and dry area away from sunlight.

Shelf Life

6 months after the manufacturing date.
